A comprehensive handbook on Burn Management has been released at an academic event hosted by the Department of Plastic Surgery at Jipmer and the Tertiary Burn Centre.
The handbook, with the central theme ‘Holistic Approach to Burn Management’, was launched formally during the Midterm NABI (National Academy of Burns, India) Continuing Medical Education (CME) programme and workshop held recently.
The CME attracted a diverse audience of over 250 delegates, including plastic surgeons, postgraduates from different medical specialties, undergraduates, nursing students, and nursing personnel.
According to Jipmer, the cross-disciplinary attendance at the event helped foster an ideal environment for knowledge exchange and collaboration.
An interactive workshop held as part of the programme, featured four practical stations providing hands-on training on — ABC in Burns, First Aid and Initial Assessment, Splinting and Physiotherapy in Burns and Dressing in Burns.
Releasing the publication, Vir Singh Negi, Director of Jipmer, underscored the importance of modern burn care.
Highlighting Jipmer’s significant contributions to both burn treatment and research, he noted that the Jipmer Tertiary Burn Centre had been approved as a Centre of Excellence by the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare.
Dr. Negi also drew attention to the critical and urgent need for skin banking in India.
A panel of speakers at the subsequent session, included the President, Secretary, and Treasurer of NABI, along with various regional experts from Chennai and Puducherry. The experts deliberated on the fundamental principles to recent advances and technology in burn management.
Among those who led the events were Friji M.T., Head of Plastic Surgery, Ravi Kumar Chittoria, Devi Prasad Mohapatra and Dinesh Kumar S., professors, Padmalakshmi Bharathi Mohan, assistant professor and Anand A, medical officer at the burn centre.
