Retail giant Boots has removed the entire range of Suzanne Jackson’s beauty products due to 'safety concerns', EVOKE can exclusively reveal. The pharmacy and beauty emporium have taken the drastic decision to totally remove from their 85 stores nationwide and their website every one of Suzanne’s products, including her tan range Dripping Gold. In a statement to EVOKE, a spokesperson for Boots confirmed they no longer stock SoSu branded products saying: 'Boots is recalling Sosu Peach Dreams Eyeshadow Palette in response to a safety warning from the EU's Rapid Exchange of Information System (RAPEX). 'Customers that have bought this product are advised to stop using it immediately and return it to your local Boots store for a full refund. 'As a precautionary measure, we have removed all other Sosu Cosmetics products from our shelves and boots.ie, until we have further assurances from the brand about its safety practices.’ The move to remove all of SoSu’s products comes just before the Christmas shopping season, where makeup and other beauty offerings are top-selling gifts and rake in massive profits. Earlier this month, it was revealed that an eyeshadow palette produced by SOSU Cosmetics had been recalled due to the presence of arsenic. An EU rapid alert system for dangerous non-food products, Safety Gate, issued a warning over the Peach Dreams eyeshadow palette, by the Irish cosmetics brand founded by Suzanne Jackson. The product description reads: 'Eyeshadow palette with eight peach-coloured powders. Product sold online, in particular via sosucosmetics.com.' The warning notes that the palette 'has an excessive concentration of arsenic in some of the shade powder colours'. These were measured as 0.94mg/kg in 'Creme', 1.2mg/kg in 'Sorbet', and 0.57mg/kg in 'Peach'. Safety Gate adds that arsenic 'may cause cancer, may damage fertility or the unborn child, causes damage to organs through prolonged or repeated exposure'. A statement on SOSU Cosmetics' website reads: 'SOSU Cosmetics advises that The Peach Dreams Eyeshadow Palette has been withdrawn. 'The palette dating back to 2022 is no longer being produced and any residual palettes are withdrawn from retail outlets. 'The withdrawn palette carries the batch number 20210405 & 20220420, model number SOSU0992 and barcode 5391537262098 as it was found to contain an elevated level of arsenic. 'While there have been no reported health concerns, anyone with this palette is advised to dispose of it or return for a full refund by contacting customerservice@sosucosmetics.com. 'Our loyal customers are our number one priority, and we can confirm that we no longer use the manufacturer of this palette. SOSU Cosmetics has issued a a statement through their PR company about the removal saying: 'SOSU is currently liaising with the HPRA and is independently testing the product to provide assurances to the HPRA about the product’s safety. As part of the withdrawal process for the eyeshadow product and while seeking clarity from SOSU on this issue, Boots has taken the temporary decision to suspend the sale of SOSU products. SOSU is currently engaging positively with Boots with a view to providing the clarity required and is confident that this process should result in the suspension being lifted.
