The Army Welfare Placement Organisation (AWPO) concluded a Drone Pilot Training Programme for ex-servicemen from Andhra Pradesh and Telangana. The programme, held from September 6 to 20, in collaboration with Sahyog Care Foundation, equipped 32 retired personnel with skill to fly drones.
The 10-day training included four days of theoretical sessions at AWPO’s Secunderabad office, covering the fundamentals of drone systems, followed by simulator practice at Keesara. This was followed by six days of field training in practical drone flying. Participants were also given an insight into industry applications and entrepreneurial prospects over two dedicated days.
Four companies interacted with the trainees and conducted interviews, while 12 candidates expressed interest in pursuing an entrepreneurial model with IPAGEUMA (India Drone Academy). The academy will guide them in drone procurement, advanced training, and business development. Three participants have opted for advanced training, and several others have been shortlisted for technical and administrative roles, with a second round of interviews scheduled, said a release.
