Ex-NFL quarterback turned broadcaster hospitalized after stabbing

INDIANAPOLIS, Indiana — Former NFL quarterback and current Fox Sports analyst Mark Sanchez was hospitalized early Saturday after he was stabbed during an altercation in downtown Indianapolis, according to multiple reports.
Police responded to a disturbance call around 12:30 a.m. near West Washington Street and North Senate Avenue, where officers found two injured men, one with stab wounds and another with cuts, ESPN reported.
Both individuals involved in the fight received medical treatment, and Sanchez was last reported to be in stable condition at an area hospital, according to a statement from Indianapolis Metropolitan police shared on X. Investigators believe the incident was an isolated dispute between the two people and not a random attack.
“We are deeply grateful to the medical team for their exceptional care and support,” Fox Sports said in a statement. “Our thoughts and prayers are with Mark, and we ask that everyone please respect his and his family’s privacy during this time.”
Sanchez, 38, was in Indianapolis to broadcast Sunday’s game between the Colts and Las Vegas Raiders. He will no longer work the game, according the ESPN report, but his replacement has not yet been named.
Sanchez played roughly nine seasons in the NFL after being drafted fifth overall by the New York Jets in 2009, where he led the team to two consecutive AFC Championship appearances. He also played for the Philadelphia Eagles, Dallas Cowboys, Chicago Bears and the now-Washington Commanders before retiring in 2018.
