Former LSU Tigers national championship winning coach Ed Orgeron is seeking a return to coaching college football, he said Wednesday.
“All depends what the best thing available is, Jacques, but I’m ready to coach again,” Orgeron told WAFB-TV’s Jacques Doucet at a ceremony celebrating former Tigers linebacker Patrick Queen.
Orgeron, 64, last coached LSU from 2016-21. The Louisiana native led the Tigers to a 51-20 record in his six seasons, including a 3-1 record in bowl games and winning the 2019 College Football Playoff National Championship with a 15-0 record.
However, Orgeron and LSU agreed to part ways following the 2021 season after the Tigers posted a 5-5 record in 2020 and a 6-6 record in 2021.
Prior to his time at LSU, Orgeron served one season as interim head coach at USC in 2013, posting a 6-2 record. He also coached three seasons at Ole Miss from 2005-07, going 10-25 as the Rebels’ head coach.
A number of high-profile college football programs have fired their coaches during the first month-plus of the season, including Arkansas, Oklahoma State, UCLA and Virginia Tech.
Off the field, Orgeron appeared as himself in 2009 movie “The Blind Side,” a sports-drama about former Ole Miss offensive tackle Michael Oher.
