The ex-husband of politician Mark Latham’s former porn star partner has slammed police over her arrest and detention after she was charged with revenge porn offences.

Nathalie Matthews was taken into custody at Sydney Airport about 7am on Sunday on an outstanding warrant when she flew home from Dubai in the United Arab Emirates.

The 38-year-old was charged with accessing or modifying restricted data without authorisation and intentionally recording and distributing an intimate image without consent.

Matthews was granted bail on Monday and on Wednesday appeared in Downing Centre Local Court where she pleaded not guilty.

Her ex-husband is currently also before the courts accused of waging a campaign of harassment against Matthews but spoke out strongly against the way she had been arrested.

Ross Matthews told the Daily Mail he was not the alleged victim of the charges his ex-wife was facing – that person cannot be identified – but he was aware of ‘the circumstances surrounding them’.

‘While I condemn Nat’s [alleged] behaviour, for her to be arrested at the airport and held for 28 hours over such a petty matter that she never would have been charged with had she not been in the public eye is ridiculous,’ he said.

‘I know for a fact that NSW Police were in contact with Nat a week before she was arrested, after they had already issued the warrant for her arrest but did not advise her she had an outstanding warrant or even ask her to return to Australia.

‘What is their excuse for this?

‘Nat is hardly going to become a permanent fugitive from the country she was born in and runs a business in over such minor charges so I understand why Nat has pleaded not guilty.

‘These charges are ridiculous and NSW Police should not be applying the law differently based on the fact she is in the public eye. That is disgraceful – but NSW Police are a disgrace, so not surprised.’

Ross Matthews has previously criticised police for accusing him of harassing his ex-wife without even having interviewed him.

He is charged with using a carriage service to menace, harass or offend Nathalie Matthews with phone calls and emails between April 1 and June 2 this year.

The starting date of that alleged conduct coincides with the first listing of a case Matthews brought against his ex-wife in the NSW Supreme Court’s equity division.

Ross Matthews pleaded not guilty to the harassment charge on July 23 and his case returns to Downing Centre Local Court for hearing in December.

He previously told the Daily Mail he was not a public figure and wished to maintain his privacy, but was unhappy with the way police had handled his case.

Breathtaking decision Mark Latham’s porn star ex made three years ago is revealed

‘As my lawyer has stated, phone records will demonstrate that the claims made against me are false,’ he said.

‘It is disappointing that NSW Police chose not to verify Ms Matthews’ allegations or even speak with me before laying charges.’

Police are also seeking an apprehended violence order on Nathalie Matthews’s behalf to protect her from her ex-husband.

The harassment allegation against Ross Matthews emerged a week after he insisted he no longer had anything to do with his former wife since their split three years ago.

He had spoken out after Nathalie Matthews accused Latham, a former federal Labor MP turned NSW Upper House independent, of ‘a sustained pattern’ of psychological, financial and emotional abuse during their relationship.

‘Please stop messaging me,’ Ross Matthews posted to X. ‘I don’t speak to Nathalie and do not care. Thank you.’

Nathalie Matthews is privately seeking an AVO against 64-year-old Latham, accusing him of vile conduct ‘including defecating on me before sex and refusing to let me wash’.

She further claims he forced her into degrading sexual acts, demanding she call him ‘master’ and pressuring her to take part in sex with others.

The businesswoman also alleges physical violence including Latham pushing her against walls, forcing her out a door, throwing a plate at her, and driving at her with a car.

Latham appeared in Downing Centre Local Court in relation to the AVO application on Wednesday while Nathalie Matthews was present

In her AVO application, Matthews stated she still held fears about Latham.

‘The defendant has held intimate photos and videos of me, and I have been afraid he would expose them to shame and control me if I attempted to leave or resist his demands,’ she wrote.

The Daily Mail is not suggesting any wrongdoing by Latham, only that Nathalie Matthews has made allegations against him.

Ms Matthews describes herself as the managing director of Skynet Global Logistics, a company involved in freight forwarding which has a presence in Sydney, Perth and Dubai.

This publication revealed in July that Ms Matthews had worked as an OnlyFans porn star for years before she began dating Latham and converted to Islam in 2022, adopting the name Maryam Abdullah.

Ms Matthews posted hundreds of explicit images of herself on the site under the name Bondi C** S***, as well as videos showing her having sex.

Latham has denied ever mistreating Ms Matthews during what he describes as a ‘sexed-up, consensual, open arrangement’.

He has not disputed sending sexually graphic texts to Ms Matthews – but says some messages have been taken out of context – and has not denied having sex with Ms Matthews in Parliament House.

‘The big news is I had a private life,’ Latham told 2SM’s Chris Smith. ‘I had a sex life and I’ve got to say it was fantastic.

‘If I’m the only person in Australia who in a work environment engaged in a bit of playful sex talk with their partner, then I’ll buy everyone a lottery ticket tomorrow.’

Ms Matthews’s revenge porn matter will return to court in November. Her AVO application is next listed later this month.
