Nobody knows the Dallas Cowboys and Philadelphia Eagles rivalry better than former Cowboys wide receiver Dez Bryant.
On the field, it was physical with plenty of trash talk for the full 60 minutes. When the games were in Philadelphia, Eagles fans didn’t always say nice things to Bryant and his team.
However, Bryant showed what truly makes sports great, as he reached out to an Eagles fan on X who posted about his battle with cancer.
“From a Cowboy fan to an eagles fan.. beat the Phuck outta cancer,” Bryant posted.
The receiver played against the Eagles 13 times in his career, and finished with a record of 6-7 in those games.
He had some big games over his career, as he had six games with at least 98 yards in the matchup. His best game ever against the Eagles was on December 14, 2014. He had six catches for 114 yards and three touchdowns in a 38-27 victory.
Bryant was taken by the Cowboys with the No. 24 pick in the 2010 NFL Draft after being a star during his college career at Oklahoma State.
He made an immediate impact on the team in his rookie season, as he had 45 catches for 561 yards and six touchdowns. He had a three year stretch from 2012-2014 where he had at least 88 catches, 1233 yards and 12 touchdowns in each season. Bryant formed one of the elite QB/WR duos with Tony Romo, as the two mastered the back shoulder fade.
Bryant ended his Cowboys career with the most receiving touchdowns for any receiver in team history (73). He is also currently third all-time in catches (531) and fifth all-time in yards (7,459).
He played his final season in the NFL for the Baltimore Ravens in 2020.
His gesture on social media may seem like a small act, but it is the perfect reminder of what makes sports so great. On Sunday, from the opening kickoff to the final snap, it is all about the rivalry. It’s about doing whatever is needed to help the team win.
Bryant reminded the sports world on Tuesday what truly makes sports so great. When the game is being played, that are no friends.
However, when the game is over, we are all humans who happen to love the great sport of football. Kudos to Bryant, as that type of humanity that he showed a rival fan is definitely worthy of throwing up an X.
