Ex Akwa Ibom official reaffirms loyalty to APC amidst link to PDP

Speaking with journalists in Uyo on Thursday, Udom, who is also the Chairman of the Governing Council of the Sure Foundation College of Nursing Sciences in Ukanafun Local Government Area, stated that his recent resignation from a state government appointment was strictly a personal decision and bore no political undertones.

He stated this after his name appeared on a list allegedly featuring members of the newly formed Caretaker Committee of the PDP in the state, adding that he remains a loyal member of the All Progressives Congress.

He explained that his withdrawal from the political limelight was to focus fully on the establishment and development of the Sure Foundation College of Nursing Sciences in Ukanafun. The private institution is dedicated to advancing nursing and midwifery education and will provide much-needed manpower for the health sector in Akwa Ibom State and beyond.

He said, “My resignation from a government appointment had nothing to do with the PDP caretaker committee. I believe my name was included due to my recent silence in political activities.”

Reaffirming his political loyalty, Udom said: “I am a fully registered member of the APC in my ward with registration number 174210, and I am listed as number 5 on the party register. I have never attended any PDP meeting, publicly or privately, since my voluntary decision to join the APC, as well as to support the present administration in the state.”

He further distanced himself from any ongoing PDP activities: “I publicly dissociate myself from the PDP and all matters related to its newly constituted caretaker committee,” Udom asserted.

He also addressed rumours about his political stance, reiterating his firm support for the current Governor of Akwa Ibom State, Pastor Umo Eno.

“A lot has been said, but I leave the rumour peddlers to God. In Ukanafun, you cannot mention 10 loyal supporters of the Governor during the 2023 elections without naming Nana Udom. I was there then, I’m still here, and I will remain here until he completes his second term and beyond. I am not a man of double stance,” he concluded.
