Although the original show is over, Supernatural lives on with a brand-new sequel. Running for fifteen seasons between 2005 and 2020, Supernatural is probably one of the most beloved genre series of all time. Its blend of Americana mythology and character-driven drama earned it a level of success and devotion few long-running TV shows manage to maintain for so long. Now, five years after Supernatural's series finale, the franchise refuses to stay buried. Supernatural lives on through its passionate fans and its ever-expanding mythology. In 2025, Dynamite Entertainment will honor that enduring legacy with a brand-new comic continuation, taking readers back to the Winchesters’ early days and the roots of their story. Supernatural Returns In 2025 With A Comic Interquel Supernatural #1; Written by Greg Pak; Art by Eder Messias Supernatural is officially returning in 2025 in comic book form. On October 29, Dynamite Entertainment's Supernatural #1 continues Sam and Dean Winchester's story from the pen of Star Wars: Darth Vader and Planet Hulk writer Greg Pak, with art by Spider-Man: The Lost Hunt artist Eder Messias. The series features covers by Clayton Crain, David Cuosens, and Eder Messias, plus a photo variant of the original cast for each issue. New issues will be released monthly, keeping fans hooked all through the fall and beyond. Set between the first and second seasons of the hit TV series, Dynamite's Supernatural comic series will take readers back to the early days of Sam and Dean Winchester’s journey. The brothers find themselves investigating a wave of mysterious fires in a crumbling town, where a factory explosion at Windler Industries leads to a mystery surrounding the company’s own employees. As usual, the Winchesters must uncover the malevolent force behind the fires. The following month, the second issue takes a tonal shift toward the playful, as Sam and Dean attempt to raise funds by gambling their last few dollars at a casino. There, Sam befriends a mysterious woman who turns out to be a siren. What begins as a night of fortune quickly spirals into chaos, with the brothers forced to decide whether this sympathetic monster can truly be trusted. The third issue adds an undead twist to the series. This time, the Winchesters travel to Massachusetts, where they team up with a group of LARPers who have survived a paranormal attack. While details about future issues remain secret, each chapter follows the same self-contained, episodic format as the original TV show. Dynamite's Supernatural Comics Take Place At A Special Point In The Winchesters' Timeline The Winchesters' Story Continues In Comic Book Form The Supernatural comic series slots neatly between season 1 and season 2, a crucial and emotionally raw period for the Winchester brothers. At this point, Sam and Dean have just survived the catastrophic car crash that ended Supernatural season 1 and are still reeling from the loss of their father, John Winchester, who sacrificed himself to save Dean’s life. The brothers are burdened by grief, but they're ready to face the destiny they've inherited as hunters of the supernatural. Dynamite Entertainment's Supernatural comic interquel takes place before the Winchesters uncover the full truth about Azazel and Sam’s mysterious psychic connections, meaning they’re still operating in the relatively grounded phase of their journey. The world hasn’t yet expanded into Heaven, Hell, or the Apocalypse, It’s still the early, gritty Supernatural where the brothers rely on instinct and their battered Impala. How 2025's Supernatural Comic Series Connect To Previous Comics Previous Supernatural Comics Are Canon To The TV Show Dynamite's new Supernatural comic series continues the legacy of the franchise’s earlier comic runs. Either explicitly or implicitly, they're all canon to the television series. The first of these, 2007’s Supernatural: Origins from WildStorm, follows John Winchester’s transformation into a hunter after the death of his wife Mary, with a look at Sam and Dean’s childhood. Following Origins, 2008’s Supernatural: Rising Son gives readers a closer look at Dean’s growth as a hunter. Rising Son bridges the gap between John’s early crusade and Dean’s development into the skilled, world-weary brother seen in the show. It highlights the unique relationship between the two brothers and their father’s relentless mission, themes that Dynamite's comic series will revisit, though now from the perspective of the brothers carrying the same weight alone for the first time. The timeline continues with 2010’s Supernatural: Beginning’s End and 2011’s Supernatural: Caledonia from DC Comics, which follow Sam’s departure for Stanford and his solo experiences in the United Kingdom. The upcoming Dynamite series returns the focus to the brothers working together. Supernatural May Continue To Be Expanded In The Future There's Still Plenty To Explore In The Supernatural Universe Even after fifteen seasons, multiple spinoffs, and several comic book tie-ins, Supernatural’s world remains full of untapped stories and unexplored corners of its mythology. The Winchesters’ hunt revealed only a fraction of the strange creatures and haunted towns lurking across America. Comics offer the perfect medium to expand this lore, bringing back obscure monsters and revisiting past characters. Future comics could easily expand the Supernatural universe beyond the brothers themselves. New stories could follow new hunters and creatures, or offer fresh perspectives on familiar supernatural entities. Supernatural's mythos is an endless source of potential stories for future sequels, prequels, and spinoffs to explore. Just like Sam and Dean’s journey, the Supernatural franchise is far from over despite receiving a definitive conclusion.
