Events in Scottish Borders to support Scottish Careers Week

The Skills Development Scotland (SDS) careers information, advice and guidance (CIAG) team, local organisations, support services and employers will be delivering activities in schools and community spaces in and around Scottish Careers Week 2025 from November 10-14. With the theme of ‘Shape the Future’, the campaign celebrates the industries, career paths and opportunities across Scotland, and the support available to help everyone realise their potential. The week, co-ordinated by SDS, highlights emerging sectors, evolving job roles and stories of people shaping their futures. SDS will be running a workshop for Galashiels Jobcentre Plus customers on Wednesday, November 12 at 10am. A number of schools will also be getting behind the campaign, with careers games and quizzes, interactive workshops and careers drop in sessions taking place at Galashiels Academy, Eyemouth High, Kelso High, Berwickshire High, Peebles High and Earlston High. Pupils from Galashiels Academy will also be accompanying SDS on a visit to the Scottish Parliament during the Week, to speak to MSPs about the benefits of the new digital profile tool on the My World of Work website. SDS Head of Operations for the South, Shona Mitchell said: “Scottish Careers Week is about inspiring people to see the range and breadth of opportunities across industries and sectors in Scotland. "SDS and other partners are hosting a wide range of activities that focus on helping people of all ages to understand the learning and career opportunities that are available in the area and the support available to find them. “Many local employers will be promoting careers in their industries and schools are helping young people understand the wide range of options available to them after school.” All schools can register to tune into three, live online panel sessions across the Week, each focusing on a different sector. Young professionals from Creative Industries; Engineering and Construction; and Health and Social Care will be sharing their career stories through DYW Live, which sits on the E-Sgoil website. Parents and carers can join Discover! Creative Careers Scotland, Developing the Young Workforce, and representatives from the Creative sector in an MS Teams webinar on Tuesday, November 11 at 6pm to find out more about the range of opportunities available in Creative Industries. Another free MS Teams webinar on Thursday, November 13 at 6.30pm for parents and carers of secondary school pupils will share information and resources to support them with career conversations at home. The session will explain the help SDS offers, and share the aspirations and career influences of over 9,000 young people from the SDS Pupil and Parent and Carer Voice research.
