THE EVELYN Partners Jets are looking to make it five wins in a row this weekend, as they’re hosting Sussex Thunder at Oakfield tomorrow. Commencing at 12:30pm, the Jets will have to be at their best to get a result. With it being incredibly tight at the top of the table, every point counts. “This weekend is going to be a tough game, Sussex Thunder have just come off a big win so we’re going to have to be at our best, especially with just two points between us and the top of the table, said Head Coach Serena Kersten. “In this league, each week is always a bit of a case of going into the unknown. However, we have a lot to be confident about at the moment, and the team have proved that they belong at this level, not just competing but winning games. “Going into this game, it’ all about staying present, to be as excellent and consistent as they can be. Our home fans have been brilliant, and the support from our sponsors Evelyn Partners, Mourant and Voisins has been amazing, so we’re ready to put our best foot forward.” Jersey’s premier netball side find themselves in a great place at the moment, currently riding a four-game winning streak to see them sit at third place in the table, just two points off the table-toppers Exeter. Kersten was quick to say their key strengths behind this success, saying: “Our team’s breadth and depth is a huge strength for us, it’s been great to see the impact of the bench. Having so many options allows us to deal with any injuries or illnesses along the way without panic and keeps us consistent, as well as pushing everyone to be at their best and compete for spots on the team. “Our defence has also been very strong, we have one of the league’s best defensive records and that’s due to all the players across the board doing their part, making key interceptions and working well in the D. It’s been our secret sauce as a team and a key part of our results so far, so it’s going to be important going forward.” Although the Evelyn Partners Jets are in red-hot form, Sussex Thunder presents them with a dangerous competitor. On paper, their eighth position on the league table doesn’t do them justice, as they’re coming off a big 49-41 win against the league leaders, showing they’re more than capable to be a handful for top sides. With this challenge laying ahead of the Caesareans, the team are in the right place, with the Head Coach explaining the “great team culture”: “Player morale is high at the moment, we have such a great team culture where everyone is ready to what’s best for the team and work for each other. The team also support and encourage each other wherever they can, and it’s a huge credit to them for building this culture and environment as a team. Considering everything, Kersten detailed their gameplan, saying: “Really, it’s going to be about being consistent in our own processes and play, as focusing on ourselves is the best we can do. “We’re still searching for a complete performance this season, we’ve been learning week on week and we’ll be keen to stay consistent.” The Evelyn Partners Jets would like to give a big thank you to their sponsors Evelyn Partners, Mourant and Voisins for their instrumental support this season.
