In the city of Heilbronn in Baden‑Württemberg, the establishment of the Innovation Park Artificial Intelligence (IPAI) is gathering pace. As nations across Europe seek to gain ground in artificial intelligence (AI), this project is emerging as one of the continent’s most ambitious attempts to create an integrated ecosystem for AI research, development and application. The campus is intended to bring together academia, business and the public sector on a single site, marking a significant step in Germany’s AI infrastructure. Scope and Vision of the Campus From Start‑ups to Corporations, Building a 30‑Hectare Site IPAI has chosen a site of approximately 23 to 30 hectares in the Steinäcker/Heilbronn region for its long-term development. The plans call for a campus with capacity for over 5,000 people working in AI, including research laboratories, data centres, start-up hubs, co-working spaces and living amenities. The campus is designed to cover the full AI value chain: from qualification and training, through research and testing, to commercialisation and application. A visitor centre and real-world laboratory building has been completed and opened, providing space for start-ups, research and outreach. The winning architectural design for the main campus has been selected, featuring a distinctive circular layout intended to attract global talent.
