Welcome to the Brussels Edition. I’m Suzanne Lynch, Bloomberg’s Brussels bureau chief, bringing you the latest from the EU each weekday. Make sure you’re signed up. European Union environment ministers gather in Brussels tomorrow for a crunch meeting on climate targets days before the COP30 talks kick-off in Brazil. The EU, which has traditionally been a global leader in the fight against climate change, has been left red-faced after missing a key deadline for submitting its 2035 climate pledge to the UN body. As well as debating the European Commission’s proposal to cut net emissions by 90% by 2040, ministers must also nail down the EU’s Nationally Determined Contribution – known as NDC in climate-parlance – before COP begins.
