Estepona expands free outdoor fitness parks

Getting fit outdoors just got easier in Estepona. The town hall has opened another free calisthenics zone, continuing its plan to make exercise spaces available to everyone. The new workout area is located at Parque Ferial y Deportivo, opposite the climbing wall. It features pull-up bars, dip stations and other steel equipment for body-weight training. It joins a growing list of outdoor fitness spots around the town, including one on La Rada beach. The new 400-square-metre park is made from tough, weather-resistant steel and is described as one of the best-equipped calisthenics areas in the area. Local officials say it is the latest step in a wider programme that already includes more than 30 free sports circuits and outdoor fitness areas across Estepona. Calisthenics has become increasingly popular on the Costa del Sol. Using only your own body weight, it builds strength, flexibility and endurance. The mild climate means outdoor workouts can be enjoyed all year round, and exercising in the open air offers proven benefits for both physical and mental health. More sports facilities on the way In addition to this new installation, the council is also planning two free padel courts on the outskirts of town, in the Nueva Atalaya area, in response to local demand. These will complement the sports facilities already available nearby, which include an existing padel court and a multi-sports area for futsal, basketball and other activities. The projects are part of a wider effort by the Ayuntamiento to expand public sports areas. In recent years, Estepona has created fitness circuits, sports courts and walking routes to promote a healthy lifestyle. A town hall spokesperson said: “This project is part of the municipal commitment to continue expanding the network of free outdoor sports facilities and to promote sports and healthy lifestyles among residents.” The growing number of free outdoor gyms makes it easier than ever for people to keep fit and enjoy the outdoors. Whether it’s a quick workout or an evening stretch in the sun, these spaces are helping make Estepona one of the most active towns on the Costa del Sol.
