Emails referencing 'extortion,' information delays and other issues were found in outside forensic audit of the Erie County Clerk's Office, which was released this week. Erie County Clerk Michael "Mickey" Kearns has accused the county administration of an unauthorized "break in" into the emails of disgraced former Deputy Clerk Alexander McDougall, who was convicted of stealing public money. An outside audit to discover if there is "any further criminal conduct" or improper distribution of money within the Erie County Clerk's Office is finally expected to begin next week – nearly seven months after the County Legislature first requested it.
