Legal practitioner Kwame Jantuah has urged President John Dramani Mahama to take drastic measures in the fight against illegal mining. Reacting to the attack by illegal miners on a team from the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) and journalists accompanying them, Jantuah expressed concern over the brazenness of the illegal miners, stating that the president must be “ruthless.” NAIMOS arrests Chinese galamseyer, hands suspect over to immigration service According to him, the recent galamsey attack should serve as a bold reminder to the government to declare a state of emergency to eradicate the menace. “And what is this thing about heavily built men? Everything heavily built men, why are we scared of heavily built men? Is that what we are saying? That can they come in and do this illegality? “No. Look, President Mahama has to be ruthless. If he decided at the time he made the statement that we don’t need a state of emergency, today we realize that people can die,” he said on TV3 on Friday, November 7, 2025. Jantuah, who is also a member of the Convention People’s Party (CPP), said the illegal activities perpetrated by the galamseyers could pose grave dangers to the country, including the loss of lives. He suggested that traditional leaders who oversee the affected communities should be targeted by the government and security agencies, with chiefs who allow illegal mining in their areas being prosecuted. “Look, the EPA boss could have been killed. For what? For protecting the environment? No. We cannot sit for just a minority of people to threaten 33 million people in so many diverse ways,” he said. Any chief with galamsey in your area we target you and EOCO should come for you as a chief and ask the question, ‘why do you have galamsey in your area’. We revere chiefs, and because we revere chiefs, they too, they’ve taken advantage. Nobody is above the constitution. Anybody who does anything ultra-vice in this country should face the law, and chiefs should face the law.” RTI filed over Bryan Acheampong’s controversial US army service claim
