“It’s addictive, there is nicotine in there,” said Roumeliotis. “And it’s a gateway to other drugs. We know that it really reprograms the brain development when these things are taken young.” The EOHU will also focus more on deepening its collaboration efforts with community partners such as schools, hospitals, and municipalities. “A lot of the work we do, we do in collaboration with multiple stakeholders,” said Roumeliotis. “We have outstanding interactions and collaboration with the multitude of community partners that we work with.” The EOHU plans to track progress of its new strategic plan, with a midterm review planned for 2027. Roumeliotis has been involved in public health since 2006 and said he has no plans to step away from his role in the foreseeable future. According to Roumeliotis, working in public health allows him to work toward preventing negative health consequences before they become chronic or debilitating in some people. “The potential to do something early to prevent illness and to optimize the life of this community,” said Roumelitis. “That’s what motivates me.”
