Environment Minister Calls for Restraint on Mega-Solar Project

Asao stated, “Solar power developments that cannot coexist with local communities should be curbed.”

The minister indicated that government ministries will jointly consider responses to the ongoing mega-solar development near the Kushiro National Park.

After meeting Asao, Kushiro Mayor Hidenori Tsuruma also commented: “There are areas designated for solar promotion, but the current system does not allow zoning for restricted areas. I am grateful that a liaison council has been established.”

The first interagency meeting on the matter is scheduled to take place on September 24th.
