Enugu Reps Caucus Joins APC, Declares Support For Mbah

ABUJA – Members of the Enugu State Caucus in the House of Representatives have officially defected from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC). The lawmakers said their decision was a collective one, aimed at aligning with the visionary leadership and developmental strides of Governor Peter Ndubisi Mbah. Announcing the defection during plenary on Thursday, October 30 2025, the leader of the caucus, Rt. Hon. Nnolim Nnaji, described the move as “a courageous leap toward a brighter future” and a strategic effort to reposition Enugu State for greater political inclusion and economic progress. Also briefing newsmen shortly after plenary, Nnaji explained that the caucus reached the decision after extensive consultations and deep reflection, emphasizing that it was time for Enugu to move from the opposition into the mainstream of national politics to access opportunities for sustainable development. “For too long, our beloved Enugu State has watched from the sidelines while others helped shape the destiny of our country and tapped into opportunities that could have transformed our people’s lives. That era has ended,” he declared. “By identifying with the APC, the party currently driving Nigeria’s transformation, we are linking our constituency directly to the engine room of national development. This step will translate to more infrastructure, more employment, and greater empowerment for our youths, women, and communities.” The lawmaker commended Governor Peter Mbah for his courage and exemplary leadership, which he said has transformed Enugu into a model of good governance and progressive reforms within just two years in office. “We commend our Governor, Dr. Peter Mbah, for his vision and purposeful leadership. Under his watch, Enugu has witnessed significant progress in education, technology, aviation, and security. The state is now attracting investors in droves because of the enabling environment his administration has created,” Nnaji stated. He further clarified that the caucus’ defection was not driven by personal or partisan motives but by a shared aspiration to reposition Enugu within the national political space for accelerated growth and development. “As your elected representatives, we remain committed to being your voice and advocates in the National Assembly. We will continue to pursue policies and programmes that deliver tangible benefits to our people and ensure that every part of Enugu State feels the impact of responsible governance,” he assured. In a message of unity, Nnaji called on the people of Enugu to embrace the new political direction with optimism and faith in the state’s future. “Today marks the beginning of a new era, one defined by hope, inclusion, and prosperity. Let us rise together, believe together, and build together, because the best days of our people are not behind us; they are just beginning,” he said. The formal defection of the Enugu Reps Caucus to the APC marks a significant shift in the state’s political landscape and further consolidates Governor Peter Mbah’s influence as he continues to drive his administration’s agenda of inclusive growth and transformation.
