The Cork Business Association (CBA) has announced the launch of the Better Building Awards 2025, with nominations now open.
The awards, supported by Cork City Council, honour the businesses, developers, landlords, and tenants who take pride in presenting Cork city’s buildings at their very best.
Projects will be awarded across nine categories including City Living; Climate Resilience; Retail; Heritage & Conservation; Café/Restaurant; Pub Front; Commercial Business Frontage; Tourism, Arts & Accommodation; New Development; and Judges’ Choice.
Vital celebration
The Lord Mayor of Cork, councillor Fergal Dennehy, said the Better Building Awards are “a vital celebration of the passion, vision, and investment that goes into enhancing our beautiful city”.
“They are a powerful testament to our civic pride, showcasing how thoughtful development and restoration can honour our rich built heritage while building a dynamic and sustainable city for the future.”
Participating projects will be judged by an independent panel of expert judges including Mary McCarthy, director of Crawford Art Gallery; Seán O’Leary, a senior planner with the Irish Planning Institute; Lawrence Owens, who is a former president of the CBA; and Gwen Jordan, senior executive planner with Cork City Council.
CBA president Dave O’Brien said the awards s “highlight the incredible work being done to shape our city’s landscape”.
“The New Development Category, in particular, celebrates projects that contribute to Cork’s economic vitality and community life, creating environments that support both business and culture,” said Mr O’Brien.
Entries to the awards may be submitted online via http://corkbusiness.ie/, with submissions required to provide an image of the building and any supporting material.
The Building Better Awards ceremony takes place at The Metropole Hotel on November 7, with the deadline for entries set for October 3.
