Engineering firm John Cockerill to move metal biz global HQ to Mumbai

Multi-national engineering company John Cockerill is moving the global headquarters of its metals business to Mumbai. On Wednesday, the global CEO of the Belgium-headquartered company, François Michel, and other senior executives Vivek Bhide and François David Martino met Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis to discuss the company’s growth plans. “Our discussions focused on bringing cutting-edge steel and defence technologies to Maharashtra, in collaboration with partners like L&T and EPHL, Pune,” Fadnavis said in an X post. “A key highlight is that John Cockerill will move its global headquarters for the Metals business to Mumbai, reaffirming Maharashtra’s rise as a global industrial hub,” he added. The shifting of metal business headquarters to Mumbai follows the proposed acquisition of entire equity stake of newly incorporated John Cockerill Metals International SA by the listed Indian entity from its Belgian parent. “The purpose of acquiring the shares is to consolidate and enhance the strategic operations of the Metals Business of John Cockerill Group,” the company said in a stock exchange filing on Tuesday.
