Emraan Hashmi is currently gearing up for the release of his next film, Haq. Also starring Yami Gautam in the lead, the movie is a courtroom drama inspired by the Shah Bano case. On Monday, i.e. during the trailer launch of the movie, Emraan talked about being a part of it and urged his fellow Muslims to visit the theatre to watch Haq. He stated that the film is made from a “liberal” Muslim point of view and added that it is “very neutral”. “When I read a script like this, I see it as an actor, and for the first time in this film, I also had to bring in the perspective of a Muslim. Going back to the landmark case, the country was divided into two parts. One was on the side of religion and personal faith, the other was on the side of constitutional rights and secular rights. But, I wanted to see if the director and writer’s point of view in this film is balanced, unbiased, and neutral? So the short answer is ‘yes’. It was very neutral,” Emraan said, as quoted by IANS. “When people come out after watching this film, I don’t know what their opinion will be. I know that most of them will find it extremely balanced, and the thing that comes out is pro-women. It’s a pro-women film. For my community, I felt that this is from a liberal Muslim point of view. I think this is a great piece of work. Muslims should really come and watch this film because you will connect with it in a very different way,” the actor added. What Does Haq Revolve Around? Haq is a powerful courtroom drama that transcends legal boundaries to explore larger questions of belief, equality, and the price of truth. The story follows Shazia, played by Yami Gautam, a woman whose pursuit of justice defies both the system and societal conventions. Her determination to stand against injustice sparks a nationwide conversation on women’s autonomy and faith. Emraan Hashmi portrays her husband — a lawyer and her unexpected adversary in court — whose ideological clash with Shazia becomes the emotional and intellectual centrepiece of the film. Their courtroom confrontations unfold not just as legal duels, but as deeply personal battles between conviction, love, and identity. Haq also stars Sheeba Chaddha, Danish Hussain, Aseem Hattangady, and debutante Vartika Singh in significant roles. Based on journalist Jigna Vora’s book Bano: Bharat Ki Beti, the film raises a fundamental question — can justice ever truly be separated from religion? Produced by Junglee Pictures in association with Insomnia Films and Baweja Studios, Haq is slated to release in theatres on November 7, 2025.
