Emmerdale fans are convinced they’ve rumbled Mackenzie Boyd’s outcome from the underground bunker in an “open mystery” twist. As viewers will recall, it’s been some time now that Mackenzie found himself held captive by killer John Sugden in an underground war bunker. He was put there after he learned of John killing Nate Robinson last year, and as he tried to make a run for it, John shot him through the chest with a bow. Since then, he’s been fighting for his life underground, and was very close to an escape before John found him once more and put him back into captivity. Meanwhile for John, things started to escalate when Aaron Dingle figured out that he was spiking his water so that John could feel “needed”. He then found Mackenzie’s phone in John’s pocket and remembered hearing his voice while in the woods. As he tried to hunt for his best friend, Aaron was met by John instead. After John confessed all of his crimes to Aaron, Robert Sugden showed up to save the day. Unfortunately, John’s jealousy escalated and he threw himself and Aaron over the edge of the gorge. Since then, Robert has been arrested for a crime he didn’t commit, Aaron is in an induced coma, and John awoke from his minimal injuries. But what will happen to Mack? With John leaving him with a syringe to take his own life, will he succumb? While many fans fear that he will end up dying, others think that Charity’s pregnancy may end up being his baby, or if not it will be Ross Barton’s (as currently suspected) and it will give a motive for Mack to still be alive. Viewers may remember that Charity agreed to be a surrogate for Sarah Sugden, but she started bleeding and thought the implant failed. However, when going for a check up it showed that she was, in fact, pregnant. As Sarah and Jacob Gallagher celebrated, Charity feared that it would be hers and Ross’ baby after their drunken one night stand. On a Reddit thread, u/msbtvxq suggested: “I honestly have no idea, so it’s nice that this storyline at least isn’t completely predictable and could go in several directions. “One of the directions I’ve thought about is the baby actually being Mack’s (and he survives). So that at least something positive is happening in his life after coming back. There would of course then also have to be a dramatic downside (it’s a soap after all), and I think that could be that him and Charity don’t make it as a couple and that he’s struggling with his mental health (PTSD). So he gets a baby, but not in the circumstances he wanted. “That said, I actually wouldn’t be against Ross being the dad, purely to have a rare case of full siblings (Moses and the baby) on this show”. u/jillcrosslandpiano added: “Plenty of scope for Mack feeling guilty/ conflicted that the baby is his while Charity keeps stumm. Then Mack finds out the truth from Ross, and ofc that leaves open the mystery of whose the baby is.” Emmerdale airs on weekdays at 7:30pm on ITV1 and is available to stream on ITVX.
