Emmerdale's Mark Charnock teased that there will be a "staggering" twist in the standalone episode with himself and Amelia Flanagan. On Tuesday (November 4), Emmerdale will air the first special standalone episode for this autumn. The episode will centre around April and Marlon's relationship. The ITV soap will also air episodes around Robert's prison past, and Bear Wolf's whereabouts in this first for the Yorkshire-based soap. As viewers may recall, April had her own special episode earlier this year when she ran away from home after finding out she was pregnant. After meeting Dylan Penders on the streets, a traumatic series of events saw him being carted away by the police and April later having a stillbirth on her own. Although April returned to the village, she's been struggling to return to her "normal" life, and her relationship with dad Marlon Dingle has remained strained. In recent episodes, April and Dylan have fallen into Ray and Celia's drug business, as they struggle to pay off the debt they owe them. While the nitty gritty of the special episode has remained under wraps, Mark Charnock spoke with the Manchester Evening News and other press about what to expect. He teased: "There's a twist in it that will stagger the audience." Mark added: "I'm absolutely buzzing, it's thrilling. It's flattering to be trusted in an episode and to work with Amelia (Flanagan) that way. It was an absolutely outstanding script. It's an absolute gift for an actor, so obviously very excited." The Marlon Dingle actor continued: "We did nearly all of them (the scenes) over a two-day period, and essentially in one location. It was really rewarding, really intense, given the nature of the story. "I hope this turns out as well as the script deserves." Addressing if April's situation will improve after the special episode, Mark said: "I can tease things are going to get considerably worse before they get better. In this special episode, something happens that when I read it, it shocked me so much that I wished I'd known about it before I read it. "It really threw me... There's so much good stuff, and the great thing about this story is it impacts so many different people." Emmerdale airs on weekdays at 7:30pm on ITV1 and is available to stream on ITVX.
