Adult content creator Emily Mai is a strong believer that OnlyFans makes it possible for her to be a successful single mom of two. “I definitely feel like it makes me a better mom,” Mai exclusively told Us Weekly, comparing the gig to her previous role as a stripper where she’d work overnight hours. “You’d do 12 hour shifts and then the next day I’m exhausted from being up all night. So if I was dancing right now, I would just be tired from working all night.” Mai, who was also previously involved in corporate work, recalled that lifestyle lending itself to her being away from the house from 8 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. “There is a big chunk of the day that I just wouldn’t be around my kids, which I know for a lot of people they don’t have that choice. But for me, I have this choice because I enjoy being sexual,” she shared. “I enjoy this line of work.” A typical day Mai’s life includes getting to work “first thing in the morning” before helping her kids get ready for their day. After she drops them off at school, Mai gets “all my stuff done.” “Then I pick them up from school, and then we do whatever we do after school. We go play, or we go to their after school activities, and then I work again when they’re asleep,” she said. “My job is so flexible because they just have all this time with me. Unfortunately, some other parents don’t get as much time with their kids because they’re working in an office job and obviously, there’s all kinds of jobs out there. Not everyone wants to show all their bits on the internet.” She continued, “My job is so flexible, what I do is so flexible. I can take them overseas and continue to make money overseas, because I can work and do my thing overseas. We can go on all these holidays but our family income doesn’t suffer, basically.” Mai, who has built a six-figure career on OnlyFans, explained that her kids “don’t know any different” and noted that they say she’s “always around.” “They haven’t had to experience, like, ‘Oh, why are you leaving us all day?’ Like, ‘I don’t get to see you,’” she said. “I just have all this time for them. And that’s why I chose this line of work.” Mai noted that her children think her job is “computer work” and haven’t fully grasped what she does for a living — which is something she will tell them one day, but for now she is keeping those sides of herself separate. “I’m not making content around my kids. I’m not showing them my content. I’m not doing any of those things. I’m just their mom,” Mai shared. “When they are not around me — because they’re asleep, they’re at school, whatever it is, that’s when I am a creator. There’s separation between the two identities.” While the system works for Mai, the content creator noted that some of the parents of her kids’ friends can’t understand how she operates. “A particular mum at the moment [is] really on the attack because she just can’t fathom that there can be a separation,” Mai said. “It’s like, ‘Yes, I am a creator and I work many hours every day as a creator, but as soon as my children are in my care, I stopped being a creator and I’m their mom.’” She continued, “This person can’t seem to understand that I can be two separate things, and they just think I have porn around my house everywhere, and sex toys all around my house, but in reality, I’ve got a room dedicated to my work with a key with a lock on the door so my kids can’t come in. It’s very separated from them.”
