Elon Musk Takes A Dig At Signal, The Messenger’s President Hits Back

Yesterday's outage banged a lot of big players like Snapchat, Signal Messenger, Duolingo, out of the ring as most of these platforms were not functioning properly. citing this scenario, Tesla boss Elon Musk said that he doesn't trust Signal any more which was a bold statement and rattled a lot of people. Musk's statement was met with a bold response from the Signal President Meredith Whittaker who said, 'Signal is trusted by the security and hacker community, and hundreds of millions of others, BECAUSE they can examine it, and because on examination, it has shown to be robust, private, and secure–for over a decade.' For those who are unaware, the centralized infrastructure upon which signal does not necessarily put encrypted communications through signal at any risk because Signal does not hold the keys to encrypted data held in that infra. Why Musk Took A Jibe At Signal? Elon Musk has been aggressively promoting X chat as a method to get secure and encrypted communication between the users. On the other hand, the security experts all over the globe have said that any app claiming to offer encrypted messaging should be open-source in order to establish trust. Apart from this, there will be no way for others to actually know if the app has encrypted messaging or not. Musk's platforms is being dubbed online as X Chat which will be competing with direct messaging apps. Officials at X have also said that they are planning to make it easy to verify their chat features are safe and secure. All in all, we can say that Musk is promoting X chat and wants it to replace Signal and maybe even compete with other instant messaging applications in the near future. The way Musk is moving forward in all the niches, speculations are that the Tesla boss doesn't want to compromise on any opportunity to make his mark in different tech micro-niches and create an X ecosystem.
