BAY CITY, MI -- Pinconning loves to give Danny Dubay the ball and watch him go. The senior running back brings entertainment value on top of mounds and mounds of yardage. With his electric running style, Dubay has entered rare air as a two-time rushing champion on the Bay County Football Leaders list, leading the way among players at Bay City Central, Bay City Western, John Glenn, Essexville Garber, Pinconning and Bay City All Saints. Dubay rolled up 1,421 yards and 15 touchdowns, virutally matching his numbers from a year ago and repeating as both the rushing yardage champion and rushing touchdowns champion in Bay County. Dubay joins Western’s Aidan Robinson (2022-23) and Central’s Unique Houston (2018-19) as the only back-to-back rushing yardage champions since Bay County Leaders began in 1998. He was the only 1,000-yard rusher on the Bay County scene this season and nearly doubled the total of his closest pursuer. The same is true for passing champion Gunner Mezey of John Glenn, whose 1,418 yards and 17 TDs easily led the field. He is the second straight Glenn QB to lead in yardage -- and third in five years -- after the Bobcats went without a frontrunner from 1999-2020. A tight battle played out for the receptions title, where Glenn’s Blake Francis hauled in 23 passes to edge teammate Lukas Gies by a single catch. He became Glenn’s first Bay County reception leader since Rory O’Hare in 2019. The 23 catches is the lowest totlal to lead the list since Bay County Leaders began. Glenn’s Bradley Boyk repeated as reception yardage leader, despite ranking seventh in catches. The big-play receiver produced 523 yards, averaging a whopping 30.8 yards per catch. He joins Garber’s Logan Anthony (2020-21) and Ben VanSumeren (2015-17) as the only players to repeat as Bay County reception yardage champ. Boyk and All Saints senior Bo Williams finished atop the receiving touchdowns list with six. All Saints quarterback Jack Wetters was the top scorer on the Bay County scene with 122 points, just two more than Williams. Wetters also led Bay County in scoring in 2023. Dubay was the top scorer among 11-player teams with 94 points.
