Please put the text of the obituary in a Word document, a Google document or in the body of the email. Two candidates are vying for a seat on the Amity Township board of supervisors in the Nov. 4 election.
Democratic candidate Steven Chrismer and Republican candidate Nathaniel Halter are competing for a six-year term on the board.
The candidates were asked to respond to the following questions.
Question 1: What makes you an ideal representative of this area?
Question 2: What needs improvement in your municipality?
Steven Chrismer
Party: Democrat.
Age: 70.
Occupation: Chrismer is a retired civil engineer who spent his career working for both freight and passenger railroads.
Response 1: As a civil engineer with over 40 years of experience, I am very familiar with most aspects of local infrastructure that a township supervisor would be responsible for. This knowledge will allow me to ensure that taxpayer money is well spent.
Response 2: A main topic of concern is the high cost and frequent poor service of electric and water utilities in the region. To address these issues related to the water supply I have organized a local group of local township supervisors with the goal of keeping water publicly owned and affordable rather than privatized and expensive. My goal is to extend our group’s focus to problems with electrical service in the near future.
Nathaniel Halter
Party: Republican.
Age: 30.
Occupation: Halter is owner and president of Halter Landscaping Inc.
Response 1: I think that the biggest thing that makes me an ideal representative of Amity Township is the fact that I am a business owner and know what it takes to efficiently and effectively run a business successfully. I feel that business and township matters go hand in hand at times and it takes a business mindset to figure out the complex problems a township can face on a daily basis. I also have a young family that will be growing in Amity, and I personally want to see the best for the township, which will in turn be the best for my family.
Response 2: I definitely think the Route 422 corridor has room for improvement to enable more commercial development. Some of the growing traffic concerns in less populated areas of the township have made me think to look toward our commercial district to see where we can drive further development but not further traffic concerns. Commercial development also allows us to bring in more tax dollars without putting pressure on our local school district with more kids.
