Elderly man killed in frenzied bee attack

Elderly man killed in frenzied bee attack Oct 30, 2025 News — stung to death while cleaning land (Kaieteur News) – A 67-year-old man died on Wednesday after he was attacked by bees at Enterprise backlands, East Coast Demerara. Police said they are investigating the incident which occurred between 09:30 and 10:45 hours involving Lennox Luke, called ‘Mikey’ of Kitty, Georgetown, along with Selwyn Dean, a 29-year-old construction worker also from Kitty. Reports state that Luke had accompanied Dean to assist in cleaning up and erecting a fence on a plot of land owned by Dean at Enterprise. “While work was ongoing, a large swarm of bees emerged and attacked the two men. In an attempt to escape, Selwyn ran forward, and Luke ran backwards and fell to the ground, where he was attacked by the swarm of bees. Selwyn ran away after sustaining a few bee stings,” the police release stated. Police said the EMT was contacted, and along with NARI personnel, arrived and ‘smoked’ the area. With the assistance of public-spirited citizens, Luke was escorted in an unconscious state to the Enmore Regional Hospital. After receiving treatment at about 11:20hrs, he was pronounced dead. Marks were seen on his back, forearm, and the back of his head. His body is at the Jerricks Funeral Home, awaiting PME. The scene was photographed and statements were taken as investigations continue. Luke’s death comes a week after an almost similar incident occurred at Surat Drive, Triumph, East Coast Demerara, when a swarm of bees descended on a group of road workers, killing one man and leaving another fighting for his life. Twenty-nine-year-old Winston Semple, a contractor of Prince William Street, Plaisance, was killed last Wednesday, while 40-year-old Glendon Simpson of Non Pareil was hospitalised in critical condition. According to police, Semple, Simpson, and other workmen were engaged in road construction when the bees attacked without warning, stinging the men repeatedly. Public-spirited residents rushed to their aid and transported them to the Enmore Regional Hospital, where Semple was pronounced dead on arrival. His body was taken to the Memorial Gardens Funeral Home, where it awaited a post-mortem examination. bee attack, elderly man, killed, Lennox Luke
