Efrain Juarez a shock Celtic manager 'contender' as list whittles down to eight serious candidates

Another new name appears to have entered the frame to take over at Celtic – and it's a surprise one as former Hoops midfielder Efrain Juarez has reportedly been put forward for the job. The 37-year-old has made a name for himself as a manager in South America, winning the league in Colombia with Atletico Nacional before landing the UNAM Pumas job earlier this year. And now the Scottish Sun say he's a surprise contender having been put forward to Hoops chiefs as a potential option. Juarez was previously assistant to Ronny Deila at three different clubs, joining him at New York City, Standard Liege and Club Brugge before heading to South America to break out on his own. He won the league and cup double in charge of Atletico and was headhunted by one of the top clubs in Mexico. Now it's being heavily reported he is one of the names on the table as Celtic ramp up their search for their next permanent boss . It's claimed they are down to a list of eight serious candidates which seems likely to include Juarez if his name is coming into the picture at this stage. Craig Bellamy appeared to rule himself out but the credible contenders are understood to include Wilfried Nancy, Kieran McKenna, and Kjetil Knutsen. The concrete options share the profile laid out by O'Neill upon his return to the club when he revealed they'd be looking for a younger head coach to lead them forward. Juarez certainly fits that bill and has the added bonus of a history at Parkhead, albeit a brief one between 2010 and 2012. He may feel there is unfinished business to be settled and could do so in the dugout. Other options could well include former England U21 boss Lee Carsley and Belgian Nicky Hayen. Robbie Keane is also understood to be interested in a return while Mark van Bommel has reportedly distanced himself from the role.
