The Ministry of Education has directed the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE), Kendriya Vidyalaya Sangathan (KVS), and Navodaya Vidyalaya Samiti (NVS) to ask their schools to screen Chalo Jeete Hain, a film inspired by childhood incidents from Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s life.
According to the ministry’s communication, issued on September 11, the film should be shown between September 16 and October 2. The letter stated: “It will help young learners to reflect on themes of character, service, and responsibility. The film can also serve as a case study for moral reasoning, and support the goals of social-emotional learning, developing empathy, self-reflection, critical thinking, and inspiration.”
The ministry explained that the screenings are part of an experiential learning programme called Prerana, based on nine human values: Swabhiman aur Vinay; Shaurya aur Sahas; Parishram aur Samarpan; Satyanishtha aur Shuchita; Karuna aur Seva; Navachar aur Jigyasa; Vividhta aur Ekta; Shraddha aur Vishwas; Swatantrata aur Kartavya.
“Prerana program is being conducted from the historic Vernacular School of Vadnagar, Gujarat, established in 1888, the very institution where Hon’ble Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi began his educational journey,” the communication noted.
The programme includes storytelling, value-based sessions, indigenous games, activities, and audio-visual learning. Films, the ministry said, help bring “abstract values, life stories, historical contexts, ethical dilemmas, and human emotions to life.”
About The Film Chalo Jeete Hain
Chalo Jeete Hain has been regularly used in the Prerana programme. It is inspired by “true events and embodies the 9 binary values and the quote of Swami Vivekananda, ‘Only those who live for others, actually live’.”
According to the Press Information Bureau (PIB), the film is “inspired by a childhood incident from the life of Prime Minister Narendra Modi. It tells the story of young Naru, who, deeply influenced by Swami Vivekananda’s philosophy, seeks to understand its meaning and strives to make a difference in his small world.”
The 32-minute film was first released in 2018 and won the National Award for Best Non-Feature Film on Family Values at the 66th National Film Awards. Directed by Mangesh Hadawale and presented by Aanand L. Rai and Mahaveer Jain, it is being re-released nationwide from September 17 to October 2 under the ‘Chalo Jeete Hain: Seva Ka Sanman’ initiative by the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting.
The ministry said the re-release is meant to honour the “silent heroes” of society, including watchmen, cleaning staff, drivers, and peons. “With this initiative, the timeless message of selflessness and service will reach the new generation in an impactful manner,” it added.
