New Delhi: The Ministry of Education has directed the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE), Kendriya Vidyalaya Sangathan (KVS), and the Navodaya Vidyalaya Samiti (NVS) to screen Chalo Jeete Hain, a film inspired by childhood incidents from Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s life.
According to the ministry’s communication dated September 11, the film is to be shown to students in schools affiliated with these bodies between September 16 and October 2.
Aim of the directive
The ministry stated that the initiative is intended to encourage young learners to reflect on values of “character, service, and responsibility.” It added that the film could serve as a “case study for moral reasoning” and support goals of social-emotional learning, including empathy, self-reflection, critical thinking, and inspiration.
Officials said the screenings would be integrated into school activities during the period leading up to Gandhi Jayanti.
About the film
Chalo Jeete Hain, released in 2018, is a short Hindi film directed by Mangesh Hadawale. It depicts the formative years of Narendra Modi and highlights themes of compassion, leadership, and service. The film had earlier been screened in selected schools and institutions.
Reactions and context
While the ministry has framed the move as part of moral and values-based education, similar directives in the past have sparked debates over political influence in schools. Critics have often argued that educational spaces should remain free of political symbolism, while supporters claim that inspirational stories can positively shape students’ outlook.
As of now, CBSE, KVS and NVS have not issued individual circulars, but are expected to convey the directions to their respective schools shortly.
