A stretch of Princes Street in Edinburgh has been locked down by police due to an apparent emergency incident. The alarm was raised at around 1.20pm on Saturday, November 1 when locals said part of the street had been cordoned off by cops. Emergency services, including Police Scotland , are believed to have rushed to the scene on what is one of the major thoroughfares in central Edinburgh, and the main shopping street in the capital. Concerned eyewitness said police had told them that a "serious incident" was underway, according to Edinburgh Live . One onlooker added that "a huge amount of police are still there investigating." Photos shared with the site show dozens of officers standing guard around a taped off area at Waverley Market, which is located next to Waverley Station, a major transport hub in the heart of the city. Shoppers can be seen in the background continuing to go about their business, but the staircase leading down to the market looks empty. Tape is blocking off the pavement from the top of the Waverley steps leading into the capital train station . The tape appears to stretch along the walkway to the adjacent bus stop prior to Waverley Bridge. Officers could be seen parked on the opposite side of the street in front of Barclays bank. The nature of the incident is not yet known, nor is who or how many people are involved. Police Scotland has been contacted for comment.
