Eddie Murphy has had quite a spectacular career in Hollywood, but at home, his kids just know him as Dad. “My kids are the center of everything. Once you have kids, it’s all about them,” Murphy, 64, said in the new Netflix documentary Being Eddie, which was released on Wednesday, November 12. The Coming to America actor is a dad of 10 children, including youngest daughter Izzy, 9, and youngest son Max, 6, with wife Paige Butcher. Murphy and Butcher, 46, tied the knot in 2024 after more than a decade of dating. (Murphy also shares shares son Eric, 36, with ex-girlfriend Paulette McNeely, daughters Bria, 35, Shayne, 31, Zola, 25, and Bella, 23, and son Myles, 32, with ex-wife Nicole Mitchell Murphy, son Christian, 34, with ex-girlfriend Tamara Hood and daughter Angel, 18, with ex-girlfriend Mel B.) While Eddie has been kept busy in recent years with projects like 2021’s Coming 2 America, 2023’s Candy Cane Lane, 2024’s Beverly Hills Cop: Axel F and 2025’s The Pickup, he said his “legacy is being a parent, not what I did at work.” “If you put your kids first, you never ever will make a bad decision,” Eddie continued of what fatherhood has taught him. The Saturday Night Live alum shared in the documentary how his lifestyle and nightly routine changed after he met Butcher and they expanded their family. “I used to stay up maybe two days sometimes before I’d go to bed,” he said. “Then I met Paige and I got on her schedule. Now we watch two episodes of Seinfeld and go to bed.” The comedian revealed his preferences regarding having pets also changed during their relationship, telling viewers, “We had dogs and now we have cats. We never thought we’d have cats. Never in a million years. But I have more in common with cats than I do with dogs.” The Murphy crew has had a lot to celebrate recently as Eddie’s eldest son, Eric, married Martin Lawrence’s daughter Jasmine in a private ceremony. “Everybody was making the big wedding plans, and then they decided they wanted to do something quiet with just the two of them,” Eddie revealed on The Jennifer Hudson Show in May. “We’re in-laws,” he said of his relation to Lawrence, 60. “He don’t have to pay for the big wedding now.” Eddie revealed that Eric and Jasmine’s ceremony was so small, even he didn’t attend. “They went off and they got married at the church. They just had the two of them and the preacher. They had a quiet little thing,” he explained. “So I think we’ll have a big party or something.” The union quickly got Eddie thinking about future collaborations with Lawrence. (The pair previously costarred in the 1999 film Life.) “There’s a bunch of ideas that we have,” the You People star said. “[It’s a Mad, Mad, Mad, Mad World] is an old movie from the ’60s that I want to remake and do with all funniest, like, a who’s who of Black comics. That’s what I want to do. And, of course, Martin would be in that.”
