EAU CLAIRE, Wis. (WEAU) – A mother’s cry for help breaks the silence in Carson Park Thursday. It is one of hopefully not too many cases officers are being trained to handle.
“We try to make the scenario as real life as possible. And, in real life, that’s all pieces that we deal with,” said Gail Gregory, a detective sergeant with the Eau Claire County Sheriff’s Office. “A child that left their home, and as the scenario works through, she was abducted by an unknown man.”
This training on child abduction cases happens every year.
“Any case involving a child is a difficult case for everyone involved to deal with. We have very few child abductions here in Eau Claire,” said Gregory.
Something new is usually learned and applied.
“The officers did really well. They rolled through the scenarios really quickly. Especially when it comes to the technology piece. And, that was a big goal,” said Sergeant Mike Major with Eau Claire Police. “Kids nowadays have cell phones. And, that’s how they’re messaging people. That’s how they’re meeting people online. That’s a huge part of the investigative piece that we need to stay up to speed on.”
Sgt. Major helped navigate the crime scene and all possible leads to pave the path home for children caught up in a nightmare.
“Us being well prepared to work with crisis response, or victims witness, so we get that family the resources that they need right from the get go,” said Major.
All in an effort to race the clock with faster results.
