For information on submitting an obituary, please contact Reading Eagle by phone at 610-371-5018, or email at obituaries@readingeagle.com or fax at 610-371-5193.
Most obituaries published in the Reading Eagle are submitted through funeral homes and cremation services, but we will accept submissions from families. Obituaries can be emailed to obituaries@readingeagle.com.
In addition to the text of the obituary, any photographs that you wish to include can be attached to this email. Please put the text of the obituary in a Word document, a Google document or in the body of the email. The Reading Eagle also requires a way to verify the death, so please include either the phone number of the funeral home or cremation service that is in charge of the deceased’s care or a photo of his/her death certificate. We also request that your full name, phone number and address are all included in this email.
All payments by families must be made with a credit card. We will send a proof of the completed obituary before we require payment. The obituary cannot run, however, until we receive payment in full.
Obituaries can be submitted for any future date, but they must be received no later than 3:00 p.m. the day prior to its running for it to be published.
Please call the obituary desk, at 610-371-5018, for information on pricing.
The Reading Science Center will unveil its newest exhibit Oct. 18 that was created by dozens of employees from East Penn Manufacturing Company.
The exhibit, Energy in a Box, will demonstrate how battery plates work together to power engines while encouraging visitors to think about recycling and sustainability.
“The lights and sounds of this exhibit make it extremely appealing to our young audience, but the adults who accompany them are fascinated by it, too,” Executive Director Ralia Vardaxis said.
Vardaxis said hands-on learning is at the heart of science education, and is central to the mission of the center. By creating opportunities for children and families to experiment, test ideas and physically interact with scientific concepts, exhibits like Energy in a Box make science both accessible and memorable.
The official unveiling celebration will take place Oct. 18 at 11 a.m. Admission to the center will be free to the public all day from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. The day will include family-friendly science activities such as spooky experiments and battery-building challenges.
“We’re honored to support the Reading Science Center in their mission to inspire young minds and strengthen the future of our community,” said Christy Weeber, president of East Penn Manufacturing. “Energy in a Box is a wonderful example of how collaboration can bring science, sustainability and creativity together.”
Jim Cinelli, museum founder, said the exhibit by East Penn Manufacturing is the latest in several built for the institution by local industries that shows the relationship between science and manufacturing, health care and engineering.
“This is exactly what I had envisioned when I established the Reading Science Center,” he said.
