East Kilbride boss Mick Kennedy reckons he has one of the best strike partnerships in Scotland after Connor Young and Cami Elliott helped blow Elgin City away in the opening half hour of Saturday’s 3-0 win in League Two. Young, who is on loan from Dunfermline, took just two minutes to break the deadlock at K-Park when he got on the end of an Elliott pass and slotted home. With six minutes on the clock, he doubled their advantage when a strike from the edge of the box found the bottom corner, before Nathan Flanagan cut in from the right on the half hour mark and unleashed an unstoppable left-footed strike into the top corner. That was enough to earn EK all three points and keep them within three points of leaders Spartans – who they face in a cup and league double header over the next fortnight. But Kennedy reckons his new strike force is so lethal it is up their with the best in the entire SPFL. He said: “Connor has not played a lot of football recently. It has taken him a couple of matches to get his sharpness up but you could see on Saturday that you won’t find a better front two at this level than Cami and Connor together. “You will struggle to find a better two from the Premiership all the way down the leagues than them. “The two of them are exceptionally gifted together. “We have changed the shape we have been playing in for the last two-and-a-half years, it does take a bit of time for that to bed in but we are getting there now. “It takes time to get used to different rotations but we were excellent from start to finish on Saturday. “For all the possession we’ve had, teams have tried to sit in against us and tried to catch us on the break. We’ve maybe struggled to break teams down because the box is so congested, but putting that extra man up top has made the difference. “The issue over the last few weeks hasn’t been our ability to dominate games – I think we’ve dominated every game in terms of possession – but we’ve not created enough opportunities and given away slack goals. “I think on Saturday it was clear that the stuff we worked on during the week, changing the shape and things like that, had an impact on the team. “We were excellent and went 3-0 up early on. We probably could have scored a couple more goals as well so I am delighted.” Kilby now travel to Ainslie Park to play Spartans in the second round of the Scottish Cup on Saturday.
