EAST GRAND RAPIDS, MI - The East Grand Rapids Public Schools Board of Education has appointed David Hall as its newest trustee. Hall, a Grand Rapids attorney, will fill the vacancy created by former Trustee Amy Turner-Thole, who resigned on Sept. 28 to become executive director of the East Grand Rapids Schools Foundation. The school board appointed Hall during the board’s Oct. 17 meeting, and he will serve through Dec. 31, 2026. Hall will have the opportunity to seek election in November 2026. Board President Mike Reid said Hall comes to the board with “a breadth of experience in law, finance, government and leadership, as well as experience serving on the East Grand Rapids Schools Foundation Board.” “This multitude of experiences uniquely position him to understand the challenges, programs and priorities of our District,” Reid said. Hall is a corporate finance attorney and partner at Barnes & Thornburg LLP’s Grand Rapids Office, according to a bio page on the website of the Grand Rapids Art Museum, where he also serves as a board member. Hall previously worked as deputy general counsel to the Governor of Illinois in the Office of Management and Budget. He served on the East Grand Rapids Schools Foundation Board and the Project Review Committee of the Land Conservancy of West Michigan. Hall was one of seven applicants the school board reviewed for the position. At the Oct. 13 meeting, school board members narrowed the pool to three candidates, who were involved to an interview at the Oct. 17 meeting. East Grand Rapids Superintendent Heidi Kattula said the district’s leadership was “impressed by an extremely well-qualified and passionate pool of candidates for the vacant trustee position.” “We appreciate the continued support of our community candidates and their willingness to serve on the Board of Education,” Kattula said. The next regular board meeting for East Grand Rapids Public Schools is at 6:00 p.m. on Dec. 1, 2025, in the Community Room at the James E. Morse Administration Building at Woodcliff, 2915 Hall St SE.
