Earthquake in California jolts Bay area: Residents say ‘biggest one ever felt in Central Berkeley’

A 4.6 magnitude earthquake jolted the US state of California early Monday, according to the US Geological Survey. The US Geological Survey reported that the earthquake struck just over 1.6 km (1 mile) east-southeast of Berkeley at a shallow depth of 8 km (5 miles).The rumble was so powerful at 4.6 magnitude that it activated the local earthquake early warning app. One resident told a local radio station the tremors had caused his house to shake and dishes to spill on the floor, according to The Mirror.Residents have been urged to be wary of aftershocks and check for hazards. There are no reports of injuries at this time. One wrote they were “holding on my couch for dear life” when the tremors struck. Tremors were felt across Berkeley, Oakland and San Francisco as terrified residents recalled their entire homes shaking while they heard a loud noise.KTVU Anchor Heather Holmes said it felt “pretty big”. She wrote on X: “Pretty big earthquake just now at 2:56am. Felt a strong jolt here in San Francisco. Did you feel it?” “Woke up in a tremor,” one person responded. A second commented: “Felt it in San Bruno,woke my cat up also.
