Dylan Efron Dishes on What's Next After 'DWTS'

Key Points Dylan Efron discusses life after 'DWTS' and teased an upcoming project with brother Zac Efron. He championed senior pet adoption, sharing personal experiences and Banfield's November initiative. 'You can also help a dog’s life. And that’s a really rewarding feeling,' he shared. Dylan Efron recently opened up about what’s next for him after Dancing With the Stars, including a tease for an upcoming project with his brother, Zac Efron. One day after performing a jive to Elton John‘s “I’m Still Standing” with his DWTS partner, Daniella Karagach, for Rock and Roll Hall of Fame Night—and receiving his first “10” from guest judge, Flavor Flav—Dylan spoke with Parade while promoting his partnership with Banfield Pet Hospital for National Senior Pet Month and Adopt-A-Senior-Pet Month. 🎬 SIGN UP for Parade’s Daily newsletter to get the latest pop culture news & celebrity interviews delivered right to your inbox 🎬 “I’m so happy Flava Flav loved it and gave me that first 10,” Dylan said of the jive. “That was really special.” He added, “It’s to the point where I know I’m becoming a better dancer. I still am craving that dance that I just go out there and crush the performance, the dance. I know it’s coming. I thought this week could have been it, for sure.” While in Los Angeles competing on DWTS, Dylan has been missing his dog, Booey. It’s the longest he’s been away from his canine companion since adopting him about five years ago while filming Down to Earth Season 2 with Zac. Dylan explained that he worked on set for the Netflix series with an animal trainer, who offered a piece of wisdom that stuck with him. “His advice was to adopt a senior dog,” he recalled. “And he was saying that a puppy just doesn’t know what loss is. A puppy doesn’t know right from wrong. And they’re very difficult to train. Where when you adopt, especially an older dog, they’ve had a tough life. And they just want a home. And they want a better life.” Dylan continued, “That’s why I really love what Banfield is doing is highlighting these senior dogs that are loyal. They’re trained. They just want a happy place to be. And I think that’s really special to hear.” Oops! We’re unable to load this content right now. View directly on Instagram Although he’s looking forward to eventually reuniting with Booey, Dylan is dialed-in on doing his best on DWTS Season 34. He also said he’s open to appearing on more reality TV series after walking away as one of the four winners of The Traitors Season 3 and crushing it so far on DWTS. “I think that both of these shows stood out to me as incredible challenges where I get to learn something new. I get out of my comfort zone,” he explained. “I’m just going to keep chasing that. Whether it’s acting, another show. I love being in a place where I can still learn. And just test myself. Whatever it is, I’m open to them all.” When asked if he had any more projects planned with his older brother, Zac, 38, Dylan, 33, shared, “We don’t have anything planned right now,” before clarifying, “I can’t say that…We do have some stuff.” (He couldn’t offer more details at this time, so fans will have to stay tuned!) In November, Banfield is partnering with five shelters across the U.S. to highlight senior dogs available for adoption. It will also cover the adoption fees of six shelter pets and provide them with a complimentary Senior Care Optimum Wellness plan. “Ultimately, a human getting a dog is a selfish act. We want to make our lives better, and Booey’s made my life better,” Dylan said. “But at the same time, you can also help a dog’s life. And that’s a really rewarding feeling. And I think you feel that even more with a senior pet.”
