According to RTL, both crews took an early lead and maintained it to win decisively. In the women’s eight, Romania, the reigning Olympic champion, finished second, while Great Britain took third. On the men’s side, the Netherlands was joined on the podium by Great Britain and the United States. This championship marked the first time in three years that the Dutch women’s eight competed. The team included Tinka Offereins, Ymkje Clevering, Ilse Kolkman, Hermijntje Drenth, Vera Sneijders, Lisanne van der Lelij, Nika Vos, Linn van Aanholt, and coxswain Dieuwke Fetter.
