DUSU Polls Begin Today at 8:30 AM; Over 2.75 Lakh Students Eligible to Vote

Delhi University (DU) students will cast their votes in the DUSU elections today, September 18, 2025. More than 2.75 lakh students are eligible to vote in the country’s most high-profile student elections this year. The voting will be carried out in two shifts: 8:30 am to 1:00 pm for day scholars and 3:00 pm to 7:30 pm for evening students. DUSU election results 2025 will be declared on September 19, 2025. Security Tightened for DUSU Polls As the campus is gearing up for polling, security has been tightened. Around 600 police officers have been deployed, 160 of them equipped with body-worn cameras, along with extra CCTV surveillance and drones to monitor activities. After a long time, the college walls and hostels haven’t been touched due to the strict enforcement of anti-defacement rules under the Lyngdoh Committee guidelines. “We are happy that this year no defacement is visible in the campuses, which used to be our major problem,” DUSU Chief Election Officer Raj Kishore Sharma told PTI. Big Three Face Off in DUSU 2025 Elections There are three main contenders in DUSU elections 2025 — the RSS-affiliated ABVP, the Congress-backed NSUI, and the Left-supported SFI-AISA alliance. All of them have released manifestos emphasising reforms, inclusivity, and student welfare. NSUI’s Joslyn Nandita Choudhary, a PG student of Buddhist Studies, has promised hostel shortages, campus safety, and menstrual leave. The SFI-AISA combine, Anjali, from IP College for Women, is fighting for gender sensitisation, resistance to fee hikes, and restoration of grievance redressal mechanisms. Aryan Maan from ABVP has pledged subsidised metro passes, free Wi-Fi, accessibility audits, and better sports facilities. “We are expecting an increase of about 50,000 voters compared to previous elections,” the chief election officer said. DUSU Election 2025: Delhi HC Bans Victory Procession After Results In a latest development, the Delhi High Court on Wednesday prohibited candidates and student organisations from taking out victory processions anywhere in the city post announcement of the DUSU election result 2025 on September 19. As per a PTI report, a bench of Chief Justice D K Upadhyaya and Justice Tushar Rao Gedela said it was not interfering with the elections, but if the polls are not conducted in a “satisfactory order”, it may stop the functioning of the officer bearers of the Delhi University Students Union (DUSU).
