The Atlanta Braves claimed Alek Manoah, the former All-Star pitcher who was designated for assignment by the Toronto Blue Jays earlier this week.
Manoah, 27, was optioned to the minors. With three games left in the Braves’ season, and every minor league season already complete, Manoah likely won’t make his first appearance in a new uniform until next season.

Manoah, the 11th overall pick in the 2019 draft, was 1-1 with a 2.97 ERA in seven starts with the Triple-A Buffalo Bisons before he was DFA’d.
The Braves were eliminated from postseason contention weeks ago, and can offer Manoah a fresh start in a low-pressure environment. Still, expect him to get a chance to be a big part of the Braves’ rotation next year.

Twelve different pitchers have started at least one game for Atlanta since the All-Star break. A 13th, veteran Charlie Morton, is slated to start Sunday.
But Morton is a strong candidate to retire after this season. Several others who have filled in for the Braves’ rotation amid their injury plagued season won’t be back with the team next year.
