The Red Kettle Season is just about here. Starting this Friday, the Red Kettle season begins in the Northland with volunteers ringing and raising money for the holiday season. Volunteers are needed to ring the bells and drive donations from 11 am to 7 pm each day. You can register online and pick your time and location. The Duluth Salvation Army has a goal of raising $215,000 before Christmas. Community Engagement Director Cyndi Lewis says the need is bigger than ever, “We are seeing need like never before. In just one month, our hot lunch program has doubled, our emergency food shelf participation has doubled, and calls for help have surged by more than 200%,” said Cyndi Lewis, Community Engagement Director at The Duluth Salvation Army. “Behind every number is a person… a family, a child, a senior wondering how they’ll make it through the week. This Red Kettle season, your generosity can be the answer to that question. Please give, and help us meet this incredible need together.” Tap To Give Machines New this year is the Salvation Army's tap-to-give devices that will be at all 16 locations. These allow people to donate by just tapping their credit card. Other big cities have started using tap-to-give devices in recent years. This will streamline the donation process for our increasingly cashless world. The Salvation Army is hoping a business will step up to sponsor the tap-to-give devices, as they do cost money for the rental. It's a great idea! I personally rarely have cash on me, and always feel guilty walking by without donating. Donate when you can, and register to volunteer to help out the Salvation Army this Holiday season.
