Dulquer Salmaan Recalls Thinking 'We Might Lose Money' On Lokah, Is 'Excited' On Film's Pan-India Success

Dulquer Salmaan is currently receiving all the praise for his recent release, Lokah: Chapter 1. The film, which released in theatres on August 28 has grossed Rs 100 crore within a week of its release. Directed by Dominic Arun, the film starring Kalyani Priyadarshan is receiving rave reviews from fans and critics alike. Amid all the buzz, the actor-producer opened up about the overwhelming success of the film which has also broken barriers to become a pan-India cultural phenomenon. Dulquer Salmaan On Lokah’s Pan-India Success Talking about reactions and love on Lokah, Salmaan told The Hollywood Reporter India, “This is our seventh production, and we’ve always managed to land safe. But nothing has been like Lokah. Even as an actor, none of my films have exploded like this. It’s been accepted across demographics and has now become a part of pop culture. That’s what’s most exciting.” Further, he added, “Honestly, we were bracing ourselves for a potential loss. We believed in the film, but weren’t sure how it would perform commercially. Buyers weren’t lining up, and we had made peace with the idea that we might take a hit on the first film of the franchise.” “I was seeing reactions from across India. It’s a testament to how audiences today are open to different languages and storytelling styles. People gave the film a chance on release day itself—watched it, reviewed it, made reels about it. It was surreal,” shared the actor. “We were all in disbelief. It just blew up. And suddenly the conversation shifted from ‘will it work?’ to ‘what do we do about the next one?’ It’s exciting, but yeah—no pressure!” Dulquer concluded. More About Lokah The film tells the story of Chandra, a yakshi (vampire) played by Kalyani Priyadarshan. She is summoned by Moothon, the leader of a league of superheroes, with a voice over by Mammootty. Travelling from Sweden to Bengaluru for her mission, Chandra’s arrival changes things. Her neighbour Sunny, played by Naslen, falls for her instantly but soon finds out the truth Meanwhile, officer Nachiyappa (Played by Sandy), is determined to stop Chandra from achieving her goal.
