Forget being the drummer for Spinal Tap. Pop culture’s most fatal role can have is a side character in Hawkins. While the core cast of Stranger Things has survived four different encounters with the Upside Down, many of their friends and enemies have not. That includes Joseph Quinn’s Eddie Munson. The Dungeon Master metalhead sacrificed himself in Stranger Things 4. But in a world where a dark parallel universe exists, many viewers hoped death wouldn’t keep the beloved character from appearing in the show’s swan song. The final season’s episode titles made us think that is very possible. As has Quinn himself. But don’t count on it. The Duffer Brothers have said Eddie will not appear in Stranger Things 5. Showrunners and creators Matt and Ross Duffer spoke to Empire about the highly-anticipated final season of their show. That included them throwing cold water on a hot fan theory. Matt Duffer shot down the possibility of Eddie Munson making a glorious return. “I love that Joe Quinn is toying with people! But no, he’s dead,” said Matt. Matt Duffer said even if they wanted to bring him back, Quinn has been far too busy to return. “He’s shot like five movies since! When the hell has he got time to come and shoot Stranger Things?” said Duffer. He then added, “No, sadly, RIP. He’s fully under that ground.” Okay. Harsh. That’s pretty definitive. For sure. And we’re not convinced. What else are they going to say? “Oh yeah, let me tell you about this huge surprise we got planned, one that could potentially spoil the very ending of the show. Joe Quinn is totally back as Eddie Munson in Stranger Things 5.” Exactly. Now, in fairness, he probably won’t return! The Duffer Brothers are probably telling the truth. But we won’t know for sure until the series ends on New Year’s Eve. Until then we’ll hold out hope Eddie will be back. And if he brings any dead Spinal Tap drummers with him even better.
