Former Chief Justice of Nepal, 73-year-old Sushila Karki has been selected as the next interim Prime Minister of the country. Karki had obtained a master’s degree in political science from Banaras Hindu University in 1975. She was the topper in her class. She started practicing law in Biratnagar in 1979. It was in 2009, that she became a judge of the Supreme Court and was made the first woman Chief Justice of Nepal from July 11, 2016 to June 6, 2017. (File Photo)
Balen Shah, born on April 27, 1990, in Naradevi, Kathmandu, hails from a Maithil origin Madhesi family. He attended VS Niketan Higher Secondary School and obtained a Bachelor of Engineering (BE) in Civil Engineering from Himalayan Whitehouse International College in Kathmandu. Shah then pursued further studies in India, where he earned a Master of Technology (MTech) in Structural Engineering from Visvesvaraya Technological University (VTU) in Karnataka. In addition to his career as a rapper, Shah has been serving as the 15th mayor of Kathmandu since 2022 and was considered for the post of Prime Minister. (File Photo)
Born in 1954, Baburam Bhattarai served as the 36th Prime Minister of Nepal from August 2011 to March 2013. He completed his schooling at Amar Jyoti High School in Luintel, Gorkha, and Amrit Science College. For higher education, Bhattarai moved to India, where he obtained a Bachelor of Architecture from Chandigarh in 1977.
