Draymond Green shares optimistic opinion on Warriors' Jonathan Kuminga standoff

Golden State Warriors fans have been stuck in limbo all summer. Jonathan Kuminga, a 2021 lottery pick, has been locked in contract negotiations with the franchise for months. Neither Kuminga nor the Warriors has found a suitable resolution.

On Sept. 15, Warriors forward Draymond Green was asked via social media for his thoughts on the situation. Rather than lambasting Kuminga for his standoff, the four-time NBA champion appeared to be understanding toward the overall situation.

“Negotiations are rarely easy, but they usually get done in the end,” Green replied.

Kuminga has reportedly spoken with other teams around the NBA. The Phoenix Suns, Chicago Bulls and Sacramento Kings are three teams expected to hold an interest in the explosive forward. However, the Warriors appear to have resisted any and all negotiations regarding a potential sign-and-trade.

Despite being with the Warriors for four years, Kuminga has struggled to cement himself in head coach Steve Kerr’s rotation. Last season, he played in 47 games, with 10 of them coming as a starter. He averaged 15.3 points, 4.6 rebounds and 2.2 assists.

Jonathan Kuminga’s standoff could lead to chemistry issues with Golden State Warriors

According to ESPN’s Tim McMahon, Kuminga’s stalemate with the Warriors could lead to chemistry issues behind the scenes next season. McMahon made his comments during a Sept. 15 episode of “NBA Today.”

“Steve Kerr doesn’t want Kuminga. Kuminga doesn’t want to play for the Warriors, in part, because he knows the coach doesn’t want him … There are going to be chemistry issues to put it mildly. This is going to be a disaster if they bring back Kuminga,” MacMahon said. “…You think he’s going to want to pass the ball? You think he’s going to want to play team ball? He’s going to want the ball. He’s going to want minutes. Steve Kerr doesn’t think he fits.”
