Dragon Quest 1 HD-2D Remake features a trophy called Erdrick’s Legacy, where you need to find and equip all of Erdrick’s equipment. It changes your look to the same style of gear you could get in Dragon Quest 3 HD-2D Remake, and it’s the best gear in the game for your character. If you played the original game on the NES/Famicom, or any of the remakes, you might remember where to go.However, there are a few changes. The original game didn’t have equippable helmets, for example. That didn’t show up until DQ2. If you’re struggling to complete Erdrick’s Legacy in Dragon Quest 1 HD-2D, or simply just want the best gear, we’re here to help. How to get all of the Erdrick’s equipment in Dragon Quest 1 HD-2D RemakeAll the armor you need to equip for Erdrick’s LegacyErdrick’s ArmourErdrick’s ShieldErdrick’s HelmErdrick’s MarkErdrick’s SwordThe majority of the pieces of Erdrick’s Legacy in Dragon Quest 1 HD-2D Remake are pretty simple to find. Either you fight a boss for them, or you have to find them in the world. The only one that’s really going to trip people up if they aren’t doing all the content is Erdrick’s Helm. In both games it can be a little tricky to find. However, below we’ve gone over all the steps you need to know.1) Erdrick’s ArmourJust defeat the Knight-Errant and go claim the sparkling item (Image via Square Enix)Erdrick’s Armour is almost certainly the first piece of the set you’ll get in Dragon Quest 1 HD-2D Remake, to begin working on Erdrick’s Legacy. We’ve already covered this in a guide, but you need to go to Damdara and defeat the Knight-Errant.You can find our complete guide to besting this foe right here. If you’ve kept up on your Zalen side quest, you’ll also find him here. Go out of your way to speak with him, to proceed to the next part of that as well. You need to do this for Erdrick’s Helm.2) Erdrick’s ShieldWhen you have the Ultimate Key, you can return to the Weeping Isle at any time (Image via Square Enix)Erdrick’s Shield requires you to have completed Weeping Isle, as well as have access to the Ultimate Key. You’ll receive this from defeating Spiketail, so when you’ve done that, return to the Weeping Isle. In the Weeping Isle - Exterior Map, instead of following the long path to the boss, take the first north exit, and follow that path. You’ll come to a dead end, and the Ultimate Key Chest here will grant you the Erdrick’s Shield, which you should definitely equip immediately in Dragon Quest 1 HD-2D Remake.3) Erdrick’s HelmYou have to go through a lot of cutscenes and seeing Zalen get his inspiration back, but the reward is mighty (Image via Square Enix)Erdrick’s Helm is a bit trickier in Dragon Quest 1 HD-2D Remake, but you need it for Erdrick’s Legacy. Early in the game, when you come to the Forgotten Ruins, you’ll meet a bard named Zalen. He’s desperate to follow in the path of his ancestor, Galen. You’ll need to meet him in several important areas throughout the game, which will culminate in you finding the grave of Erdrick from Dragon Quest 3. You need to go to the following places and interact with him:Forgotten RuinsNameless RuinsDamdaraCantlinGalenholmAfter you’ve met Zalen in Galenholm, you cannot make any progress until you’ve used the Rainbow Drop to create the bridge to Charlock (Dragonlord’s Castle). Once you have, fast travel to the Field of Flowers. You’ll meet Over-Seer there, and after a conversation, you’ll fast travel to the Shrine of Rain to speak with Dream-Whisperer. She will take you to the Western Isle, where you will ultimately acquire Erdrick’s Helm in Dragon Quest 1 & 2 HD-2D Remake. We won’t spoil the cutscene there, but it’s worth seeing.4) Erdrick’s MarkNot a big deal, just defeat Armageddon (Image via Square Enix)Thankfully, you can’t miss Erdrick’s Mark in Dragon Quest 1 HD-2D Remake. Defeating Armageddon at the Shrine of the Spirit will give you this reward. At first it’s the Sacred Amulet, but it’s true nature will be revealed, and you are free to equip it. Armageddon can be a very challenging boss, but with good heals, and frequent use of the Cop Out skill, you can overcome him.5) Erdrick’s SwordIt's a bit of a long walk, but it's worth it (Image via Square Enix)Anytime after you’ve unlocked the Dragonlord’s Castle, you can get Erdrick’s Sword. It’s on Basement 1 of Dragonlord’s Castle, but it’s a pretty long walk to get there. You’ll be taking a route that doesn’t lead you to the Dragonlord, so I recommend doing this before you’re ready to beat the game. Go in, get the Sword, and then you can do any extra content, achievements, or level grinding you may need to do before tackling the final boss of the game. Below is the proper route you need to take in order to get to the Erdrick’s Sword item for Erdrick’s Legacy:Interact with Throne in Center, and head down the stepsFollow the linear path to the south exitFollow the B2 path all the way around to the only other exit on the east side of the mapTake the path around, and use the northwest stairs on floor B3 (east steps lead to cursed Hate Mail armor)Go into the center of B4, and take the stairs to the north (east stairs lead to Mini Medal)Take the only path available, the stairs to the southeastFollow the path to the large red stairsClaim your swordCheck out our other Dragon Quest 1 & 2 HD-2D Remake guides and featuresDragon Quest 1 & 2 HD-2D Remake: How to defeat the Dragonlord (DQ1)Dragon Quest 1 & 2 HD-2D Remake: How to defeat GoregoyleDragon Quest 1 & 2 HD-2D Remake: How to beat Pazuzu (DQ2)
