Before you can finish DQ1’s Shrine of Rain in Dragon Quest 1 & 2 HD-2D Remake, Armageddon shows up! A multi-armed skeleton boss, his design is going to be familiar to long-time fans of the Dragon Quest franchise. Thankfully, it’s another melee-focused boss, so shortly after facing Goregoyle. Some of your strategies are going to carry over nicely, but this one’s just a bit harder than its flying brother. While a challenging fight, it’s not one that’s outside of your range. We fought them at level 36, and while still very much difficult, we defeated the bony battler. If you’re struggling with Armageddon in Dragon Quest 1 & 2 HD-2D Remake, we’re here to help.Tips to defeat the Armageddon boss in Dragon Quest 1 & 2 HD-2D RemakePerhaps the most annoying thing about Armageddon in Dragon Quest 1 & 2 HD-2D Remake, is that on Dragon Quest and greater difficulty, he regenerates health every round.I defeated myself because of Cop Out somewhere around 10 times, just because I got too bold (Image via Square Enix)Armageddon’s attacksThick Fog: Everyone is prevented from casting spellsSlices Once, Then Twice: Double-attack for 30-60 damage a piecePrepares to Deflect Enemy Attacks: Cop Out skill, can deflect your melee strikesMelee attack for around 30-50 damageHelm Splitter: Deals 20-30 damage and reduces DefensesAt low health, can use Sword Dance: 4-5 strikes for around 30 damage+ a pieceDuring the Fog phases, when you cannot cast spells, the Armageddon plays pretty aggressively, often going for his double-attack. This is a fantastic time to use Cop Out, since it deflects damage most of the time.I’ve also noticed that, on the turn the Fog clears, the Armageddon usually goes for Cop Out itself, so you can use that time to heal, buff, or cast Sandstorm to make him have a lesser chance to hit you.Armageddon’s regular melee can also paralyze you, so do be aware that that can be a thing. It’s one of the great reasons to keep Wild Side/Duplicate up at all times, and do things like Miracle Slash to restore health while dealing lots of damage. Otherwise, your main attack is going to be Undead Undoer or Kasizz.Break your bones upon my body! (Image via Square Enix)The worst thing about this fight, other than the regeneration, is that you can lose to your own attacks, thanks to Cop Out. The lower health the boss gets, the more likely it appears that it’s going to use Cop Out, too.Cop Out can also make him paralyze himself, and can reflect most, if not all of the hits of Sword Dance. The later I am in the fight, the more likely I am to use Cop Out anytime I’m not healing or buffing myself up.This Dragon Quest 1 & 2 HD-2D Remake boss hits incredibly hard, so make him defeat himself, instead of trying to rush him down. This is a boss where you can, in most cases, just let him defeat himself. That’s what I do, when he gets to Yellow Health: really start spamming Cop Out. Just be patient, and let him defeat himself. He’s an aggressive boss and won’t waste much time doing non-attacks, other than Cop Out.Dragon Quest 1 & 2 HD-2D Remake combines the first two classic games in the franchise in one location. Featuring gorgeous HD-2D visuals, they also feature a wealth of quality-of-life features and upgrades, similarly to the DQ3 Remake. You can learn more about this release in our in-depth review.
